The crowds of New York City were starting to get to Parker. The glitter and glitz still covered his view of the city, of course (that would probably never go away), but exploring all the famous landmarks meant dealing with dense crowds, which was Parker's special kind of fresh hell. He felt like he couldn't breathe and that he would be swallowed up whole; Parker needed space to just be. His soul needed freedom and that had been impossible as he continued to go down his "Super Awesome NYC Fun Times" list, so Parker had decided to skip down quite a few lines to a place where he could just relax and breathe: the aquarium.

After doing a little bit of research on it, Parker found out the aquarium had a low lit tunnel and he about peed himself with excitement. Parker loved everything about aquarium tunnels; watching fish glide above him, the way the light shimmered through the water across the floor. A lot of people got engaged in his aquarium tunnel back home; girls would be going with their friends for fun and there would be some lucky ass guy getting to do the scuba dive experience and all of a sudden he would pull out a laminated sign asking his girlfriend to marry him. Parker wished he could be one of those guys, but only because he really wanted to try scuba diving. There weren't any girls out there who would marry him, that would be ridiculous!

Parker put a rolled up blanket and his head phones in his bookbag before heading out from his dorm; he really didn't plan on spending a lot of time in the rest of the aquarium. In fact, Parker planned on heading straight to the tunnel, where he would lay down and prop his head up with the blanket if there weren't many people. He really didn't have a concept of what a slow or busy time would be, so he just hoped no one else felt the need to retreat to the aquarium that day, because he really wanted to lay down and watch all the fish swim above him.

On the way there, Parker thought about how his family hadn't called to see how he had settled in. For all they knew, he could have been mugged and left for dead. His finger hovered over the call button of his phone for a solid minute as he weighed the pros and cons. Pros: he could brag about how great NYC was, and he would hear at least one familiar voice. Cons: he would have to talk to his family. Yeah, Parker wasn't really feeling that. If they wanted to talk, they could call first. Slipping on his noise canceling headphones (not that they needed the noise canceling capabilities considering how loudly he played music), Parker set his music to shuffle and zoned out on instagram.

xxx

Once Parker was at the aquarium, he walked straight over to the tunnel. He did not pass GO, he did not collect two hundred dollars. The seals and penguins could wait for later, or another time maybe. It's not that he disliked seals and penguins; penguins were dope ass little waddling birds, what was there to not like??? Parker just wanted to chill in the tunnel and finally he was there. Relief washed over him and a goofy grin spread across his face as he walked in, taking in all the sights with wide eyes. It was chillier than Parker had expected, but he was wearing jeans so he shrugged it off. After walking down the tunnel a bit, Parker sat down against the wall (there were enough people that it would probably make them uncomfortable if he just laid down, unfortunately) and watched as a sting ray passed over above him.

A few months in New York and things were going surprisingly well for Aurora.

Her roommate was nice, if not a bit gossipy. She had a best friend that made flower crowns. Jackson was... Jackson had been on her mind a lot lately, mostly because she had finally seen all the photos on social media, and she had been guilt ridden since. ... Yeah. Aracelli was at Baum!! Gosh, things were just... so great.

Things were always better, though, when she wasn't at school, and she really wasn't feeling the campus today, because everybody seemed to be glaring at her more than usual. So she had grabbed her camera and hopped in a taxi to spend some time at one of her favorite places. The aquarium was probably actually her number one favorite place because of just how tranquil it was. She lost time in there, wandering wherever her feet took her, but always always making sure to see the manta rays.

Aurora snapped so many photos, she lost count, and eventually decided to stop looking at everything through the lens, and that was how she found herself in the low lit tunnel. She had been here only once before, on her way out, but now she had all the time in the world. It wasn't too crowded but she knew she would bump into somebody if she tried to stare upwards, so she took to the walls. It seemed like a very good idea to her, especially since no one else had done the same. Yup, there was no way she would crash into anybody this way!

A stingray floating along above her caught her attention and Aurora twisted, going from walking forward to backwards, so she could keep an eye on it. She had never been very good at moving while not looking where she was going but she had stuck to the edge of the tunnel for this reason exactly. Except she didn't expect somebody to be sat against the wall and so when her heels came in contact with their legs, there wasn't much she could do about it but brace for impact.

She pinwheeled her arms first, as if that would help her catch her balance, but she went down, anyway. She crash landed hard, elbows and head hitting the floor. Aurora didn't swear or shout, just a startled "ah!!" as she fell. It hurt like hell and her legs were draped now over theirs but she was more concerned with the clichΓ© cartoon birds flitting in and out of her vision. "I'm," she started but, nope, that wasn't happening yet, and so she laid still on the floor, staring up again at the fish, trying to blink away the pain.

What was life like for all the fish in the aquarium? Were they aware they were trapped in a big glass container? Surely all the weird looking creatures (read: humans) that were protected by some sort of magical force field were on their minds. If so, did fish really have only thirty second memories? That seemed a bit unfortunate to Parker, they would never not be confused! Imagine you were a fish, just chilling, and a little fish swims up and bubbles "hi mom" and you're confused because you didn't know you had a kid?? And then your brain just resets and there's this strange fish in front of you who is also equally confused??

Brain turned to mush from trying to figure out what it must be like to be a fish, Parker tried to push those thoughts out of his way as a manta ray swam over them. A smile crept onto his face as he heard all the little kids ooh and ahh over the "giant fishy who looks like the teacher from Finding Nemo!". Were little dudes ever not amusing? The answer was a strong hell no, little dudes and dudettes were always the silliest and chillest ever. Yawning, Parker stretched out his legs, feeling his knees pop like he was some old man. Though he wasn't entirely paying attention, Parker reasoned that no one would drift close to where he was sitting, as most people going through the tunnel were families eager to finally get out and go back to their day.

Maybe he could find someone to take to the aquarium one day. Pelly was pretty great, but they had their Central Park thing going on, and tackling two different parts of the city was probably too much, and would lead to them getting not just regular lost, but hella lost. As nice as it was to be relaxed in the tunnel as he was, Parker wouldn't have minded having a new friend next to him.

Was the God of Favors answering the little people today? Just as Parker was imagining coming back to the aquarium, but this time with a friend, he felt a foot slam into his leg, and glanced down from the ceiling to notice a girl falling over him. What they say about super action-y things happening in slow motion? Yeah, that was bullshit (or Parker was just very slow himself). As the girl pinwheeled her arms, Parker stretched out to catch her, but it was too late. As her head smacked the ground, he couldn't help but flinch and wince. Oh god, that had to hurt.

Carefully moving her legs off of his, Parker got on his knees, hovering over her. "Are you okay, dude?" Parker almost expected to see little cartoon birds flying over her head. Holding up three fingers, Parker asked, "How many fingers am I holding up?" Ok, so maybe Parker was a wimp about blood and never took any first aid classes like the rest of his family did every year (fighting injuries could get nasty), but that was the first thing he thought of doing. Hmm, this girl was pretty cute, and looked about his age. Maybe she went to Baum, too?

It... was not getting better. There were a few things Aurora knew she had to address, like apologizing to the poor soul she had tripped on, making sure her camera had survived the fall, and maybe getting her head checked, but she wasn't as worried about that. Leave it to Aurora Rigby to be more worried about a stranger and her camera than herself. The birds made one last trip in and out of her vision and she closed her eyes but the darkness behind her eyelids was dotted with stars. Alright. Well.

She felt her legs being moved and then somebody talking to her. Was she okay? "Ummm," she didn't feel quite as winded this time, at least. Aurora opened her eyes to see a boy her age and she guessed he was the one she had tripped on. Even in the low light, she could tell just how cute he was, and she blushed. Of course she had tripped on a cute boy. Focusing on the fingers he was holding up, Aurora squinted her eyes and then closed them completely. That was just making things worse.

"Wait, hold on," she said, waiting a few more seconds, before trying again. Thankfully, there was only one of him (thankfully as in, her vision seemed to be okay, because she honestly wouldn't have minded if she were seeing double) and things weren't as fuzzy as before. "Three... maybe?" she asked, wanting to blame the lack of light, but knowing it probably had to do with the pain and the... way his lip ring was distracting her, wow, okay, nope, she was fine, this was fine. "Sorry I fell on you," tripped over? fell on? Was there a difference? She didn't know. Remembering that her camera had been hanging from her neck, she felt around for it before finding it near one of her shoulders. She patted it to make sure nothing had broken off, and breathed a sigh of relief. That was one less thing to worry about.

Aurora struggled to sit up, wincing at the throbbing at the back of her head. Still fine. She reached for him on instinct, grabbing onto his hand or wrist or shoulder, she couldn't tell what with the way everything was spinning, and using her other hand to press tenderly on the aching spot of her head. That would be a fun bruise to worry about later. She pulled her hair out of her face and over one shoulder and, realizing that she was still holding onto him, let go. "Sorry," she said again, definitely blushing this time, dropping both hands to her lap.

Oh god, oh no, oh god!!! This poor (cute) girl was definitely going to have--what was it called? A concussion?--because of him and she was probably bleeding internally and was going to die because he wanted to stretch out his legs!!! Parker was going to go to jail, where he wouldn't be able to play guitar, or teach little kids, and where he would feel sorry for the rest of his life!

Chill.

Parker ran his hands through his hair, forcing himself to slow his breathing as the stress began to melt off his face. Whoa there, friend, that was close! "I'm so sorry, oh god, I can't believe I had my legs takin' up all that room like they were!" Okay, so, she got the right answer, but it definitely seemed a little fuzzy. "You got it, dude." So maybe Parker was actually Michelle Tanner, sue him. Rocking back on his heels, Parker made sure she had some room to breathe. She probably needed to go to the doctor, but, ehhhh....she would probably be fine! Parker really didn't know shit about head injuries, so how could he know better? Watching her eyes, not like a creep, Parker noticed that she was looking at the lip ring. It got the attention of most strangers, for many reasons; a lot of people (his parents) thought piercings were only for girls, a lot of people saw it and then pulled their children in closer even though Parker would never do anything to harm a little dude??, and a lot of people were just openly curious about it. Weirdly enough, straight up strangers would ask him really personal questions, like if he could still kiss someone? Parker never got worked up about much, but he was always just taken aback when people would ask that. Like, first of all, how dare you. Second of all....well, Parker's frustration usually fizzled out there. This girl didn't seem like one of those rude strangers, though, and just at that moment his annoying habit of biting that part of his lip kicked in, and he blushed because she was looking at him and he was doing the lip bite thing.

Why was she apologizing? There was no need, that was so silly of her, man! Parker told her just that; "Dude that was seriously all my fault you're not allowed to be sorry, sorry, but I don't make the rules." Parker shrugged like that one emoji almost all of his tweets featured. He watched as she checked around her and pulled up a camera, which he hadn't noticed until just now. It was a really nice camera, and Parker was seriously impressed. He had always been a fan of photography, but one, he had never been able to get ahold of a decent camera because jerk parents, and two, Parker was never able to capture something really awesome happening; he would be too distracted by it to remember to pull out a camera, so it would be useless. Parker bet she was a great photographer, though. "What do you take pictures for?" Was she a Lilo, who took pictures of amusing people? Like People of Walmart, but People of New...wait a minute, that was already a thing. A serious thing, but still. Did she have access to one of those dark glowy rooms where pictures developed? Were those still a thing? Parker had had always had "make out in a picture developing room place" on his bucket list, like, forever. But, pfft, like that would happen with this girl! Parker didn't even know her name, plus they had just met. Besides, she probably had a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, Parker didn't judge.

Suddenly, cute falling girl was grabbing his hand to pull herself up. Grabbing his hand. Not to be one to make her struggle to get up, Parker helped to gently pull her up into a sitting position. God, her head really had to hurt. His own head throbbed a little just from remembering the sight of her's hitting the ground. Not noticing that she has still holding onto him but also still very aware of the electric tingles shooting up his arm, Parker had a dumb, goofy grin on his face as he watched her pull her hair over to one shoulder. He always thought that was really cute. "Oh, it's okay," Parker's hand lingered for a moment before pulling it back to his lap, not even remembering to tell her that she wasn't allowed to say sorry anymore. Pushing his hair back, he introduced himself, saying, "I'm Parker Johnson, by the way. I'm new at Baum, if you've heard of it. You could totally be a tourist though, and oh man, dude, I just totally ruined your trip to the aquarium!" Heh, trip to the aquarium. Parker kept the chuckles in, but then his stomach hurt from containing it, and he bursted out in laughter. "Your trip to the aquarium!"

He was apologizing a lot for something that was her fault and Aurora wanted to shush him. As it were, she was still getting over the throbbing in her head, and the pain kicking in now on her elbows. Aurora smiled at him and shook her head a tiny bit so as to not make things worse, "you and your legs had every right! I should have been paying attention." She was brought way back to her Full House days and she grinned even more. There were so many quotes she could say in return, but what better than the one DJ used whenever she saw a cute boy? It didn't help that the lip ring she had definitely not been eyeing disappeared between his teeth. She inhaled sharply, cheeks flushing red, and said in the next breath, "oh my lanta."

This wasn't awkward. She wasn't awkward. She could definitely handle this. Aurora looked him in the eyes, glad for the distraction (even though his shrug emoji was also hella cute). She opened her mouth to apologize again but then it would just be this whole back and forth thing, like she had been part of at least twice since her moving to New York. She supposed she could let it go just this once. Pictures? Oh right! Her camera. "My mom's photography club." ... What? She had apparently been torn between "my mom" and "photography club" and her still aching head had gone with both. "No, hold, on, that's wrong." Except it wasn't actually since she did take pictures for both those reasons. "Well, it's not wrong, I just meant both. Separately. My mom doesn't have... never mind." She was getting increasingly flustered and she wasn't sure if it was from the fall or from cute lip ring boy.

Holding his hand felt nice, if only for the brief moment, but it still wasn't helping with the color in her cheeks, or her struggling with words. And wow was that smile something she wanted to see for the rest of her life. Aurora clasped her hands together to resist taking pictures of him or braiding her hair and listened attentively, noticing only a bit that the pain was now a dull throb. She was probably going to be fine. Parker. She liked that name a lot, wow. She froze up at the word 'Baum' and fretted that he would know who she was as soon as she introduced herself and she would be reduced to whatever rumors he had heard of her. But the way he said 'if you've heard of it' made her wonder if he was new. She would have seen him around by know, right?

She still considered herself a tourist in all honesty. The way she stopped at every tourist trap made it obvious enough. Her trip to the aquarium. Pffttt. Covering her mouth with her hand, she laughed a little, not sure how intentional that joke had been. He burst into laughter, though, and she followed suit, giggling. His sense of humor was already something she appreciated. "Ba dum tss," she said, pretending to do the rimshot drum motion with her hands. Once she managed to pull herself together, Aurora held a hand out to shake even though that seemed kind of silly at this point. "Nice to meet you, Parker Johnson," she said, sounding pleased as punch, Aurora Rigby. I have heard of Baum. I'm a senior there, but it's only been a few months, so I still think I'm a tourist, too."

Full House was honestly so great, Parker would fight anyone who said otherwise. Eh, well, maybe not fight. Thinking about fighting made Parker think about why he was kicked out of his last school and he had to stop himself from squirming. If that got out at Baum....Parker was not going to be reduced to just a story. Penelope had said the school was a bit of a rumor mill, so he would just have to make sure no one ever found out ever! But, anyways. Parker was so pumped when she got his reference, and even followed up with one of her own. Except...Parker didn't know why she was saying "oh my lanta". Probably because her head hurt. Yeah, that had to be it; she was just working her discomfort into a Full House reference. Parker grinned and gave her a thumbs up.

She was looking straight into his eyes, and Parker didn't know whether to look away because there was something so intense about her gaze, or to keep looking because damn, her eyes were amazing. Parker decided that holding her gaze was a much better option, because those blue eyes were worth staring into forever. Mom's photography club...? Parker chuckled as she stumbled over her words (wow all that stumbling and she was still cute). That was really awesome that she took pictures for her mom; Parker was planning on doing no such thing. "No, dude, I get what you're trying to say! My old school didn't have a photography club, just one guy who was part of the yearbook staff that had to take pictures of literally everything." Parker was thinking about a dark room again, which a photography club definitely had to have. It was silly, but he just wanted to check one out and maybe make out in one!

Puns were great, and people who also thought puns were great were just as awesome. Parker was momentarily worried that she wouldn't laugh along with him, but obviously this girl was rad as fuck because she started laughing at pun and Parker felt like that little heart eye emoji dude. "Oh, you play the air drums? Because I play a sick air guitar, we can make our own little air band." And real guitar, but that was besides the point. Parker proved his air shredding skills, laughing as he did so. What if there was an actual air band out there? Actual people playing actual air instruments? That would be a sight to see, sign Parker the hell up. Parker grabbed her hand, shaking it as he smiled. Wow, Aurora. That was a really pretty name, which made a lot of sense because she was really pretty herself.

Oh man, she also went to Baum?? Parker was just having fantastic luck at running into people from Baum before even starting classes, now he wouldn't feel like a total loser without anyone to talk to. It always helped to at least be people to wave at someone in the hallway, it gave you some hall cred. "Nice to meet you, too, Aurora." Grinning like the idiot he was, Parker continued on saying, "I'm also a senior there! I haven't started my classes yet." Hm, so, it might have been a little bold of him, which was something Parker never was, but he had an idea because Aurora was cute and he didn't want this to be the first and only time he talked to her. "You know how it feels to be new there, how about you show me around?" Yeah this would go okay, and by okay, Aurora would crinkled her nose in a "dude, you're weird, stop talking to me" way and would leave the aquarium never to acknowledge his presence again. Nice.

Aurora's immediate response to his thumbs up would have been finger guns if she didn't try so hard to not use them. She was spending too much time with Jackson, apparently. She instead just smiled and shrugged as if to say 'aww, shucks' and that felt ridiculous right after. When had interacting with boys become so difficult for her?? It probably had something to do with spending the majority of her childhood with two of them. One which she gave everything to only to lose him. The other to travel over a thousand miles just to accidentally ruin his life. She just didn't understand them. Go figure she got along better with girls now, despite it being the opposite growing up.

"Neither did mine!" Or did it? She paused to think about what Fairfield High did have to offer, but she honestly didn't remember much about her school. Her days were spent outside of it, on adventures and while slightly intoxicated. It didn't matter now, though! "Maybe it did. I didn't really get into photography until I moved here. New York is pretty." She blushed a little, feeling like she was boring Parker with silly facts about herself. They had only just met and she probably sounded so boring! "It's kind of the same here, actually, with yearbook, now that I think about it." That or Nahnie did all the hard work.

Aurora laughed, giving him an appreciative " nice!," before playing air drums along with his air guitar. "Wow, you're really good at that!! Do you play real guitar, too?" She asked, curious, and also feeling a little sad that she didn't play real drums. Maybe she would add that to her bucket list! "I would love to be in an air band with you!! I might need some more practice, though!" That sounded like so much fun, honestly, and if it meant hanging out with Parker again after this, then sign her up. Her head seemed to have stopped hurting for the time being which hopefully also meant she would make more sense from now on.

Aurora kept the sigh of relief to herself, instead just feeling it melt the tension off of her shoulders. He was new! He hadn't even started classes yet! She could at least enjoy being friends with him until he got swept up in all the gossip and realized what a horrible person she actually was. Aurora sincerely hoped he was the type to not listen or care, or if he was, that he would at least hear her side of the story. Not that her side really mattered at this point, anymore. The school definitely liked Grace better, which made sense, and so Aurora was finding it hard to make friends when everybody saw her as... Well, so much for leaving all that behind when she left for the aquarium today.

Wait, what???? Parker was asking her to show him around???? "Really?!" That sounded like SO MUCH FUN!! Aurora was admittedly not the best person since she was still learning it all herself, but it would be so much better to do so with a new friend!! And this way, he wouldn't make the same mistakes she had, like missing her subway stops, or misunderstanding street signs. Her brain was apparently still rattled and she apparently would not make more sense from now on because she leaned forward and rested a hand on his knee, overwhelmed by her excitement. "I would be honored!!"

Back in Michigan, where Parker attended a regular high school, he wasn't able to be the stereotypical guy playing Wonderwall on campus. No one filled that role, because they were just shuffled around inside with minuscule breaks in-between classes, a short lunch break, and a strict no-lingering policy for after school, unless you were part of a club or sports team that required you to stay after school that day. There might have been time in the morning, but no one wanted to arrive to school with enough time to lazily strum a guitar before classes started. Plus, lugging a guitar around all day? No thanks.

Now that Parker was at Baum, a boarding school with a lot more downtime, Parker was definitely going to be the stereotypical guy strumming his guitar on campus, except he would NOT be playing Wonderwall! He wasn't that bad. When Aurora asked if he played real guitar, not just air guitar, Parker instinctively reached next to him for his guitar, because he almost always had it, only to grasp empty air. Right. "Yeah, dude, I'm a total rockstar." Parker shrugged and scratched his head. Hopefully Aurora got the sarcasm, because that would be awkward if she didn't. Okay, maybe he should clarify. "It's nothing fancy or special, really." Even though Parker always told anyone who asked that he was just a mediocre player, Parker loved to play for people. The way someone's eyes would light up when he started playing their favorite song...that was the greatest feeling in the world, to be honest. Parker wondered what Aurora's favorite song was, and if her eyes would light up like that.

Yes, the air band was forming! They would create the sickest air band to ever exist. Better than Air Green Day, even. Maybe they could eventually come up with a cool name, like...fuck, what was Parker thinking, he sucked at thinking up band names. It was the bane of his existence, his mortal flaw. Parker watched Aurora do a little number on the air drums, laughing. "No, you're great! I mean, of course, air band practice every night so we can win the air band competition." Once again, Parker made a mental note of actually googling this. He had a habit of forgetting all the cool things he wanted to google, and, no, tying strings around your fingers doesn't help. "I'd love to know how to play real drums, too. You have to really get into it, head banging and shit, dude. Also if you're gonna be in my air band, you have to be able to toss your air drumstick. Sorry, those are the rules." Parker laughed and shrugged. He had almost said "sorry, I don't make the rules", but he did make the rules, this time. Only cool air drummers allowed, but he figured Aurora was the coolest of the cool, and that a simple drumstick toss wouldn't be difficult in the slightest.

Parker had a feeling Aurora had tons of friends at Baum, and he felt #blessed that she was willing to take on one more person to at least show around. She was definitely super cool, which Parker never was, so he hoped all of her equally cool friends wouldn't laugh at him and send him packing like an abandoned puppy. It was inevitable, but Parker was okay with that, because that's how things worked out for people like him. So when Aurora leaned forward and placed a hand on his knee, Parker's eyes turned to saucers and his neck turned hot and red, the blush not creeping up far enough to reach his cheeks. Wow, so she was definitely excited about showing him around. The blush dissipated, leaving Parker feeling equally excited and relieved because, dude, she didn't think he was a total weirdo (yet). Leaning forward slightly so it didn't seem like he was leaning away from Aurora in apprehension, Parker smiled and said, "Sweet, dude! You're my hero."

Aurora laughed, β€œare you super famous?” It would figure that she would trip on someone super famous and then not recognize them. Then again, she could always blame it on her head injury (not that she actual had one, at least not one bad enough to use as an excuse for not recognizing a famous person). Aurora tilted her head because he suddenly seemed sort of embarrassed or something, and she frowned a little. Nothing special? Alright, so they had just met, and she didn’t want to go all mom on him this soon, but she just couldn’t help it. β€œParker, shut up, what are you going on about??” Definitely not the best way she could have started that, but words were failing her. β€œI’m probably biased but based off of your air guitar skills alone, I bet you’re the best player I know.” Which probably wasn’t a good comparison since she only knew one other guitarist. β€œCan I hear you play someday?”

Oof, now that she had gotten that out of her system. She hated herself for being so maternal sometimes, especially when she couldn’t help it around cute boys she had literally fallen for (what? she hadn’t fallen for anybody). Whatever, that was totally something she could think about later. Parker was complimenting her air drumming and she felt a little shy all of a sudden. She really wasn’t that great, honestly!! β€œYou’re too sweet.” If they were actually entering an air band competition, she would definitely have to step up her game. And she was actually definitely down for it. β€œI was just thinking about how I’d like to learn, too! I sort of mentally added it to my bucket list, already.” Aurora would have shown off her head banging skills if her head still didn’t hurt a little. β€œOh nooo,” she moaned, glaring at her hands, β€œI have the worst hand-eye coordination ever. I’m so clumsy when it comes to things like that, I’m sorry!!!”

Aurora seemed genuinely upset for a moment but then Parker was leaning towards her and she definitely didn’t blush or anything because she knew how to act around boys, haha, what. It might have also been her feeling a little sheepish that he was calling her his hero because it really wasn’t that big a deal! She was happy to show him around, especially since she wished somebody had been there for her. (Not that Jackson hadn’t been, but it had taken three days of getting lost on her own at the school, and that wasn’t even including her first week or so in the city alone). She took her hand back, letting it settle in her lap, curled into a loose fist, and smiled at him. β€œMe? A hero? Okaayy, sure,” she said, laughing a little, knowing that her only superpower would be to pacify others, and where was the fun in that?

Flashing lights, screaming fans, cameras being shoved in faces, names being chanted. Fame. It was a thought that would cross his mind every once in a while, popping up out of nowhere. All (three) of his friends back home joked that one day he would rocket into stardom, and his face would be plastered on the walls of preteen girls’ rooms everywhere. Parker had always shot such things down, because fame was overrated and something he definitely didn’t deserve. That lifestyle was too fast, too overwhelming, for someone like him, he reckoned. The older he got, the more he played guitar, though, the more often the thought came up. What if he did get famous? Would it be something he’d be okay with? Parker still wasn’t totally sure. ”No, not at all. Maybe one day.” He chuckled, ”Are you?” Because it would be totally hilarious and ironic if she was, and still just as hilarious as the fact that they felt the need to verify that they weren’t talking to some international super star.

Aurora began talking to him in a way that a mom was supposed to, and Parker couldn’t help the amused smile that was plastered to his face. Obviously, his own mom had never talked to him the way a mom was supposed to, so Parker was thoroughly enjoying what Aurora had to say. He felt like looking down and twisting the hem of his shirt like five year olds did when Aurora said he had to be the best player she knew, but instead he just smiled like a complete idiot. Just as he was about to suggest playing for her sometime, she asked if he would. Whoa, dude! It was like they were reading each other’s minds. Or maybe…”Did you just read my mind? I was totally about to suggest that, dude!” Craziness, pure insanity. ”But of course I will, dude. Anytime!” Parker would take any excuse at all to play for someone.

”What, you have a bucket list too??” Parker probably had the longest bucket list in existence. He wanted to do everything, try everything. He actually collected all of his ideas in a journal, no particular order, just jamming things in the margins (even when there were blank pages) and always forgetting to cross things out. Actually, his bucket list and the way he kept it really said a lot about his personality, but that wasn’t a connection he had made yet. ”Tell me more things on it.” Parker wanted to know more about her, get to know the fun things, not the boring things like her birthday or favorite candy. Okay, well, he still wanted to know those things, but he was always ass backwards when it came to getting to know people. It was always the little details that he wanted to know right away, and then he would learn things like birthdays later on.

Leaning back on his hands, Parker nodded. ”You’re definitely a hero.” And a hottie, but he definitely couldn’t say that. Getting more comfortable, Parker laid on his back, staring up at the top of the tunnel. It was still at a distance, but he was pretty sure a manta ray was approaching, and a goofy grin broke out on his face as swatted his hand towards Aurora to get her attention. He then pointed at the approaching fish, saying, β€œquick, lay down! There’s a manta ray coming!!”

Aurora Madeline Rigby? Famous? Yeah. Right. Maybe Insta Famous, someday, if she kept posting her pretty photos of New York. Maybe by association when Aracelli made it big. Maybe if she continued her ~scandalous~ ways and slept her way to the top. Oh Christ, hadn’t she left school today to not think about all that bullshit? β€œNah,” she answered, shrugging, β€œI’m not good enough at anything to have my name in lights.” Oh Christ!!!!! What was her deal? Meet cute boy, scare him away with your mom talk and insecurities, good idea, Aurora, great job, well done. Maybe famous for being the best at putting her foot in her mouth. That was probably a thing in the Guinness World Record books, right? There were probably people better at it than her, obviously, because she wasn’t the best at any of her favorite hobbies. Sighing a little, Aurora started to fiddle with the dials on her camera, eager for a distraction.

There was one! Leaping at it, Aurora smiled back, hoping he wasn’t annoyed with her lecture, and trying to take her time answering so she wouldn’t say anything else embarrassing. β€œDefinitely not, although that would be a very cool power to have.” She would be better at her whole mediating thing with a power like that. Then again, that would be cheating on some level, right? Right. Besides, she didn’t need to know what everybody thought of her, especially since that was one of the biggest things she was always terrified of. β€œThat’s so great!! I’m super psyched!!” She wondered if his style was different from Edgar’s, but given their personalities alone, she assumed so. That just made Parker all the more interesting and she found herself wanting to know more and more about him.

Too?? That meant Parker had to have a bucket list also and now Aurora had to know what was on it. Were they adrenaline junkie sort of things like hers? Things you could only do in other countries? Daredevil-esque activities? Okay, she was definitely really super excited all of a sudden! Like, she obviously knew other people with bucket lists (she had talked at length with Stella once who denied having one because bucket lists meant dying not that dying scared Stella (that had been a thing)) but Parker seemed so fascinating already, that she had to know what he wanted to do. Except he was asking about hers and she blushed. β€œOh gosh,” she said, laughing, β€œwhere do I even start?” Her lists were taken down neatly in notebooks, organized as best they could be, and crossed out with dates and notes afterwards.

β€œSkydiving and bungee jumping and paragliding and other things like that mostly. Travel the world, of course. Learning hello in thirty different languages and I’m actually halfway on that one!! Umm, learn how to play the drums and how to draw and to land a part I auditioned for in a play and—” Aurora stopped suddenly, blushing even more,”sorry. Tell me about yours!” It felt strange to talk about herself for too long and she felt a little winded after talking about her bucket list, even though that was barely scratching the surface of it.

Parker was lying down and Aurora took the opportunity, lifting her camera up, and peering through the lens, she took a few pictures. She could delete them if he minded but she really hoped he wouldn’t. Wait, what?? β€œManta rays are my favorite!!” She said, probably too loudly, moving until she was on her back next to him. She looked for it and when she spotted it, she squealed, probably too loudly again. β€œOh, look how beautiful they are!!”

The sky had always fascinated Parker. It was so limitless, and expressive. You could do so many things in the sky, from flying, to gliding, to falling. When the earth was happy, the sky would be a pretty blue with only a few fluffy clouds. Parker wished he could float on a cloud one day. Maybe future technology would make that possible? Parker would have to add that to his bucketlist.

Aurora seemed fascinated by the sky as well, and that made him even more interested in getting to know her. Parker listened to her name some things off her list, nodding animatedly. Paragliding seemed amazing, it was always something Parker wanted to try out. Getting the guts to do it? That part was debatable though. "Maybe we could go skydiving or bungee jumping one day." Parker meant it, honestly. Sure, Aurora would probably have to drag him out of the plane or push him off the bridge, but.

Parker was a little surprised at himself. Here was this new girl, getting him to suggest jumping out of a plane?? Honestly what was happening. As for the learning to say hello in a bunch of different languages, well..."You know hola, right? Oh, and bonjour. That's all I know besides english." Flashing a giant grin, Parker shrugged. Learning new languages would be cool, but he suspected he didn't have enough room in his head due to all the guitar stuff he knew. You could only know so much after all.

What was on his list? Parker pondered the question for a moment, rolling it around in his head. There were so many things he should be able to ramble off. "Okay, you caught me a little off guard." Chuckling, Parker tapped his chin. "Custom make my own guitar, go to Disney World during that garden festival thing...travel a whole bunch. I have some much cooler things on my list if you give me a chance to find it." That would take a long time so...Aurora would have to be in it for the long haul.

After laying down, Parker realized Aurora was snapping pictures of him and he closed his eyes and smiled. "At least get one of me looking nice." Before she had a chance to lay down as well, Parker looked at her and stuck out his hand. "Now it's my turn to take some of you. You need to be in the yearbook, too."
